The Walk

I made it from my car to Reliant Stadium last night, was it ever windy. One of those Southeast Texas days that is so typical in late February and early March. 72 degrees at lunch, a cold front arrives with rain and wind, and the temperature plummets 35 degrees in an hour.

As I walked into the north wind, I really think it was blowing 25 to 30 mph, I thought about how we really need to be spiritually fit as well as physically fit. I decided to skip all the fun rodeo food, (Dipping Dot ice cream was not a temptation due to the cold weather.) I didn't eat a Bum Phillips hamburger or buy dinner from the Go Tejano diner. Between the round trip walk to the car and eating a healthy meal at home, it's a start...getting in physical shape.

At least I am in good spiritual shape, we must renew our minds by staying in the Word, it's the equivalent of a "spiritual work out". We must stay in prayer. Ephesians 6 is vital to life here on earth:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

This was way cool - but I have to say, I've loved the wind lately! It really reminds me, strange as it is - of the reality of the spiritual realm. We can't see wind, but we can feel it - we can't see the spiritual world, but it affects us greatly. :)
