In Christ - We Have Peace
Peace is mentioned often in the Bible, I learned years ago, if God thought it was important enough to repeat, I better act on it. One of my favorite verses mentioning peace is the greatest birth announcement ever:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, He wants to give us peace in the midst of all the situations we endure. As tired as I was when dad was ill, I had peace. My dad had peace. My mother had peace. Even when I drove away from the hospital the night he died, I had peace. I was sad, I still tear up, I still want to call him and say turn the tv to channel so and so, I miss sharing meals and time with him, but I have peace.
Though we suffer - we have peace: Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance
I want joy and peace, I believe this verse with all my heart:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I think the following passage is one of the most quoted but underlived (is that a word?) passage in the Bible:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Let us live in peace no matter what our parents, children, or spouses are doing. Let us be filled with the peace of the Lord no matter what the government is doing or not doing. Let us seek the Prince of Peace...let us live as New Covenant Girls.
