What is Done in Secret

Every mother knows how to spot a teenager up to no good a mile away...even when the teen is not your child, related to you, or a friend of the family.

Yesterday as I returned home from the post office around 11:00am, I noticed a teen riding her bike at a furious pace down the street...I see her roller blading, walking her dog etc many times a week, I helped her when she fell one summer day a couple of years ago. I do not know her name, she was crying so hard when she fell (it was a bad fall) I didn't understand what she said. I see her with the other students each morning as they wait for the school bus, I thought maybe she missed the bus and had to ride her bike, or did she ride it to skip school? My suspicion was confirmed when she did not go to her house but another house in the neighborhood and hid her bike. Then she saw me and turned a pale, PALE shade of white. I waved. She sorta waved.

What she did in secret was out in the open for God and apparently a neighbor to see.

We think if we do not say the ugly thought out loud or if no one hears us it may not be such a big deal...but nothing we do is truly secret. Our Lord sees and hears it all. Thankfully His mercy never ends, His love endures forever...His grace is new each day.

The Bible says:

But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you."

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

When we confess our nasty dark thoughts and words, when we let God into to secret, dark, broken places in our lives...they are exposed to the Light. The Light brings healing, forgiveness, restoration - NOT condemnation or reproach. If God is dealing with you in any area, deal with it...you will never be sorry.

My favorite verse that I taught my children long ago was: "Be sure your sin will find you out." It is far better to be found out and turn from your way than to continue on the wrong path. I wonder what that girl was up to. I pray she be found out.

Well she turned pale. That tells me she knows full well what she is doing, and hopefully has felt a twinge or two from her conscience. She must have freaked when you waved at her.
Ah well, children have to try all kinds of things. They wouldn't be human if they didn't.
