The Big Day - 50 Years

Tomorrow is the big day, my parents celebrate 50 years of marriage. Like any couple they have had their ups and downs, mundane moments, stupendous moments and everything in between.

We are having a little party at a restaurant. I ordered a round cake which resembles a wedding cake with white icing and some gold icing dotted around it, it will look like lace. I also ordered a wedding bouquet made of silk flowers tied with ribbons to place next to the cake.

I am so thankful for my parents even though they embarrassed me with their senseless rules and boundaries from 1974 to 1980, where are you going? who will be there? will their parents be there?

I am so thankful for my parents even though I spent the fall semester of my jr. year in high school grounded for making F's in Trig. Thankfully the next semester I was demoted to the 9th grade boys algebra class and made D's and C's...they were not pleased with those grades either, go figure.

I was so thankful that in 1977 they gave me a Chevette (anyone remember those things?) for my birthday until a few months later they said they almost bought a powder blue Camero for me, but didn't as I might speed. I became thankful for the Chevette again very quickly.

I am thankful for my father taking care of the man who snatched my purse. I am thankful for the ballet costumes my mother sewed from scratch. I am thankful for all the pointe shoes they bought.

I am thankful for the love they show to each other.

I am thankful for my parents' unconditional love for me and the sacrifices they made as they were raising me.

I am thankful for too many things to list, so I will end here with a prayer.

Lord God,

I thank You for my parents. I thank You for their life of service in the community - dad a police officer, mom a nurse - their service in the Kingdom. I ask You to strengthen their minds and bodies. I pray for them to live in health until it's time for them to live in heaven. Please continue to bless them. In Jesus' Name I pray.

The party will be the perfect celebration of fifty years--through it all. Your parents sound like wonderful people, and obviously, good parents, if you judge by their result. I hope you enjoy tomorrow also as you give them a special gift. Love, Annette
