The Right Hand of God

From the time I was 4 or 5 I can remember on Sunday mornings saying the Nicene Creed if we were celebrating Communion or the Apostles’ Creed if we were celebrating Morning Prayer. For some reason, I determined God was right handed and Jesus was His right hand. This was further enforced when I came across the following verses at various times during worship and Sunday School when I was a little older:

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (I decided Jesus was His righteous right hand.)

Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.
Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness. (In my young mind, Jesus.)

After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. (I guess I missed the word sat.)

Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

How in the world I ever came to the conclusion Jesus was the literal right hand of God the Father is beyond me, did I think God was missing a hand while Jesus lived on earth? I laugh about it now. After the right hand phase, my next phase was trying to convert to Catholicism behind my parents’ back, I don’t know why I wanted to do this, but I did for a while. Then I entered my heathen phase – the party years, but thankfully because of Jesus’ redemptive love I was the prodigal daughter and returned to a Christian life, my Advocate was at the right hand of my Abba Father interceding for me and you.

I pray we always remember God upholds us with His righteous right hand.

I am thanking Him this moment that you never got too far away from the long arm of God, and His love recaptured your beautiful heart. God gave us some sweet time together in prayer this weekend, by the way, that I am thankful for. You bless me more than I can say with words. Love to you, Annette

He who is forgiven much loves much...that is how I like to look at my "party" years! LOL! Great post! Thanks for your encouraging words as always.

Knowing that is very precious to me Annette. I imagine my hand in His as I go through the day - and especially the difficult times.
