Belle Ortega

Last month 3 men open fired on an apt unit because they were mad at someone who lived there over a set of car rims. Inside Velia "Belle" Ortega was sitting in her wheelchair visiting with the family and watching TV. She was shot in the chest. Belle was 78, she Houston's 1st Hispanic female police officer and had a beehive when I was a child which defied gravity. She worked with my great aunt for a while. My great aunt also had a beehive beyond belief. The 3 suspects in the shooting were apprehended. I know the Lord will take this evil and use it for His glory. My prayers are: the family can and will forgive and the murderers will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and spend their days proclaiming the Gospel. They will probably spend the rest of their days behind bars, but they can be free in Christ.

Wow. It is so hard when evil seems to triumph and good people suffer. I will be praying for God's justice to be done!

It's times like this when I pray for Justice with a capital J. Of course, in my eyes, there is no justice for crimes like these. That's when the world should be grateful that I'm not God. (and I am too!)

We had a young man recently run down a mom and two little preschool girls in a crosswalk as he was fleeing the police. Both little girls died. (4 and 5 years old.) Oh, how I prayed for Justice but I realize that I will not be satisfied with whatever punishment is handed down. You are right, though. God can work in these individuals lives and use them in ways that we could never dream of. And perhaps I might learn a lesson in forgiveness at the same time.

blessings,
karen

Karen,

One of God's names that I love so much but rarely call on is:

Ancient of Days...and He will judge, though I so badly want to and sadly still do upon occasion.

It is hard to comprehend the evil that exists in our world. But all that you have said is true, and we can pray that the Lord will make of this terrible tragedy something good.

I heard that on the news. It has become so commonplace I didn't even think about it, which I know is when my own heart is hardenening. Justice looks very different than we sometimes think. I will now pray for the family. Love, Annette
