Odd Texas Festivals

My blogging sister Annette wrote about her daughter and the annual Watermelon Thump in Luling Texas which got me to thinking, we have many festivals and events we take for granted which may seem odd to people from other states and countries.

A few are:

The Mosquito Festival
The Rattle Snake Round Up (Never been, never will attend)
The ELECTRA GOAT BBQ COOK-OFF
The Crepe Myrtle Festival (Maybe I could have one of these in my own yard.)
The Dove Festival
The Chappell Hill Lavender Festival (I may go to this one.)
The Hogeye Festival
The KOLACHE-KLOBASE FESTIVAL
The Poteet Strawberry Fest
The Pearsall Potato Fest
The BOIS D’ARC BASH
Prazka Pout
Delta County Chiggerfest & 5K Run/Walk
Czhilispiel XXXVI

I shudder thinking about the Rattlesnake Round Up and I itch thinking about the Chiggerfest.

I thought about how odd Christianity can look in the world today, how to many there is no relevance in the God of the Bible and no need for a Lord & Savior. Many think Christians are self-righteous and narrow minded which is the reason we really must walk in love. Genuine Christ like love speaks to people. Gossip and trash talk confirms what they already suspect about Christians. Taking an authentic stand for Jesus and not a legalistic diatribe speaks to people. Beating people over the head with the Bible does nothing for them except turn them off to the love of Jesus and His miraculous power to save, heal, and deliver.

Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.

Make sure you are feeding His sheep, feeding them genuine love which is a powerful testimony to His grace and mercy.

I hadn't thought of Clute, Texas with the Mosquito Festival in years! Our testimony is strengthened by authenticity and the kindness we extend. Good things to think about this day as I visit an old friend from college. She doesn't know the new me in Christ. I pray the Christ I extend to her will be full measure. Hope your dad is doing better. I continue my prayers for him. Love, Annette

Since I started blogging a couple of years ago, I've had my eyes opened to all things Texan, but this list is a new one! Fun stuff!
