Swept Away

The other day I walked into the utility room to grab the broom and sweep the kitchen. The broom was no where to be found. I searched every room in the house, the front porch, and the garage.

I called my husband and asked him if he had seen the broom (it did not cross my mind to ask if he had used it), he said he used it to sweep out his boat and did not know what he did with it. I am not into man bashing, I love my husband, but in all seriousness how do you lose a broom, a standard O Cedar broom with a bright yellow broomstick? It must have made it's way to one of the company vehicles.

A couple of days later I went to Target and bought a Clorox broom with dustpan because it was on sale. As I pushed the shopping cart down the aisle, I passed the Spic n Span and smiled, thinking back to 1986 and the cleaning incident which I blogged about earlier this year.

I decided to look up the word broom on http://www.biblegateway.com/, broom only appears a few times, mainly in connection with the word tree - broom tree, and pertaining to Babylon in the book of Isaiah. Curiously there was no verse which read thou shalt not taketh thy wife's broom unless thou returneth it to the utility room, or thou shalt not sweep thy boat with the kitchen broom thus saith the Lord.

Since I bought the new broom, my husband does not have to be concerned that I will ask for 1 as a Mother's Day gift. I asked for a reel lawn mower this year, he said no, last year I asked for an ironing board for my birthday, he said no. He said I am crazy if I think he will buy that type of gift for an occasion. He has a problem with me telling people I got an ironing board or a lawn mower for my birthday or Mother's Day. Since when has he cared what anyone thinks?
